Jonathan Kwan is an Assistant Professor of Philosophy at New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD), affiliated with the Arts and Humanities division. He holds a BA from Swarthmore College and a PhD from the Graduate Center, CUNY. His research focuses on social/political philosophy, environmental philosophy, decolonial thought, philosophy of race, and Chinese philosophy, alongside interests in art, feminist, and Buddhist philosophy. Kwan previously served as a postdoctoral fellow at Santa Clara University’s Markkula Center for Applied Ethics and taught at institutions including Hunter College and Brooklyn College. He is also the former Managing Editor of the Journal of Social Philosophy.

Kwan’s work bridges theoretical philosophy with applied ethics, emphasizing interdisciplinary and cross-cultural approaches.
