Jonathan King

Jonathan King serves as a Professor in the Department of Biology at Trinity University. He holds a Ph.D. in Biology from the Graduate Center at the City University of New York, an M.A. in Biology from Queens College, and a B.S. in Biology from the State University of New York at Stony Brook.

His research program focuses on epithelial cell junction physiology, specifically investigating how tight junction proteins respond to inflammatory stimuli, mechanical stretch, and oxidative stress. These protein complexes are critical for maintaining cellular barriers, regulating molecular transport, and preventing tumor metastasis. Dr. King employs two complementary approaches: (1) applying cellular stressors with specific signaling inhibitors to dissect junctional disruption mechanisms, and (2) using proteomics for global analysis of protein changes during junction loss.

He teaches advanced courses including Vertebrate Physiology, Integrative Biology, Methods for Biological Problem Solving, and The Nature of Cancer. His research spans cell biology, physiology, and molecular mechanisms with significant implications for understanding epithelial barrier dysfunction in disease states.

Dr. King's publication record demonstrates consistent scholarly output from 2006 through 2022, with recent work examining protein structure relationships, cellular stress responses, and mathematical approaches to cellular imaging.
