Jonathan Herbert is a faculty member in the Wind, Brass & Percussion department at the Royal Irish Academy of Music (RIAM), specializing in percussion and timpani. He holds teaching positions at the RIAM, Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, and previously at Liverpool, Manchester, and Salford Universities. His professional career includes principal percussion roles with the RTE National Symphony Orchestra and membership in the Halle Orchestra. He has performed globally with the World Orchestra for Peace under Valery Gergiev, appearing at venues like the BBC Proms, Carnegie Hall, and the Salzburg Festival.
Herbert’s education includes junior exhibitions at the Royal College of Music and Royal Northern College of Music, focusing on timpani and percussion. His expertise spans orchestral performance and pedagogy, with a focus on instrumental techniques and classical repertoire.
