معرفی
Jonathan Hargreaves is a Lecturer in Acoustic and Audio Engineering at the University of Salford, within the School of Science, Engineering & Environment. He is a member of the Acoustics Innovation Institute and serves as Programme Leader for the MSc Acoustics program.
His research focuses on pushing new frontiers in Computational Acoustics, particularly for Auralisation applications. His work spans a wide range of acoustic engineering topics including:
- Novel computational acoustic algorithms
- Loudspeaker design and characterisation
- Material characterisation
- Microphone arrays
- Acoustic testing of aerospace hardware
Hargreaves' recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on applying computational methods to practical acoustic problems, with particular emphasis on heat pump noise assessment (relevant to UK Net Zero targets), boundary element methods, and acoustic testing for aerospace applications. His work bridges theoretical computational acoustics with real-world engineering challenges.
Among his notable achievements is the UK Institute of Acoustics' Tyndall Medal awarded in 2016 for outstanding contribution to acoustics research and education.
Professionally, he serves on the IOA Research Coordination Committee and the UK Acoustics Network Special Interest Group for Computational Acoustics. His industrial collaborations include Arup, KEF, Celestion, RAL Space, and Funktion-One, demonstrating strong industry engagement.
