Colville is a Research Fellow at the University of Cape Town, affiliated with the Department of Statistical Sciences and the Biodiversity, Research, Assessment and Monitoring (BRAM) division of the South African National Biodiversity Institute and Kirstenbosch Research Centre. His work bridges ecological data analysis with entomological studies.
Research interests:
- Distribution and diversity patterns of insects
- Ecological and evolutionary processes in insect communities
- Evolution of sexually selected traits
- Functional morphology of insect pollinators
- Systematics of Scarabaeidae beetles
- Tropical biodiversity assessment
Publication trends: Focuses on insect-plant interactions, biodiversity hotspots, and morphological adaptations. Combines field ecology with statistical modeling to analyze community dynamics.
Scientific contributions:
- NRF Research Career Award Fellow
- Editorial Board Member, PeerJ (Life & Environmental Sciences)
- Published 4 peer-reviewed articles and 1 preprint in insect ecology
