Jonathan F P Rose is an Adjunct Professor and Executive in Residence at the Saïd Business School, University of Oxford. He is the President of Jonathan Rose Companies, an urban development firm focused on environmentally, socially, and economically resilient cities. His work integrates affordable housing, community development, and environmental sustainability. Rose holds a B.A. from Yale University (1974) and an MRP from the University of Pennsylvania (1980), with honorary doctorates from the New School and Yale School of Architecture's Bass Fellowship (2015).
Research: He authored The Well-Tempered City (2016), recipient of the PROSE Award, and is writing a follow-up on societal relational systems. His research bridges urban science, policy, and interdisciplinary approaches to urban challenges.
Awards: Urban Visionary Prize (2021), PROSE Award (2017), Honorary Member of the American Institute of Architects, and Trustee roles at institutions like Jazz at Lincoln Center.
Projects: Includes Sendero Verde (mixed-income housing), Gowanus Green (affordable housing + community space), and North Downtown Athens (transit-oriented development). He advises Bhutan on urban planning and co-founded the Garrison Institute’s Planetary Health Program.
Labs/Teams: Leads the Pathways to Planetary Health Program at the Garrison Institute and collaborates with the Skoll Centre for Social Entrepreneurship on regenerative economies.
