معرفی
Jonathan Emberson is Professor of Medical Statistics and Epidemiology at the Clinical Trial Service Unit and Epidemiological Studies Unit (CTSU) within Oxford Population Health, University of Oxford. His research drives global advancements in cardiovascular disease prevention through large-scale epidemiological studies and clinical trials.
His educational foundation includes:
- BA in Mathematics from the University of Oxford
- MSc in Applied Statistics from the University of Oxford
- PhD in Epidemiology from University College London
Emberson's work centers on designing and analyzing observational cohort studies and randomized controlled trials to identify disease causes and prevention strategies. He leads the Mexico City Prospective Study investigating genetic and lifestyle factors in 150,000 Mexican adults, while his meta-analyses have transformed clinical guidelines for aspirin, statins, blood pressure drugs, and stroke treatment. His RECOVERY trial contribution proved dexamethasone's life-saving impact for severe COVID-19 cases.
His 2025 publications reveal a multidisciplinary scope spanning health economics in diabetic retinopathy and kidney disease, genetic epidemiology of obesity-related mortality, vitamin D effects in aging populations, and COVID-19 therapeutics. These works demonstrate his signature integration of clinical trials, meta-analysis, and public health translation across cardiovascular, metabolic, and infectious disease domains.
Key recognition includes:
- Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology (FESC)
As educator, Emberson supervises MSc and DPhil students and co-leads the Clinical Trials and Meta-Analysis module for Oxford's MSc in Global Health Science. His grant leadership spans the Mexico City Prospective Study (UK Principal Investigator since 2013), EMPA-KIDNEY, BEST-D, and major international collaborations including the RECOVERY and Cholesterol Treatment Trialists’ Collaborations.
He directs the Mexico City Prospective Study team within CTSU's ecosystem of research groups including the Antithrombotic Trialists' Collaboration, Stroke Thrombolysis Trialists' Collaboration, and Renal Studies Group, driving population health research through coordinated global trial networks.
