Dr Jonathan Duckett is a Senior Lecturer in Human Geography at the University of South Wales, affiliated with the Faculty of Computing, Engineering and Science and the Faculty of Business and Creative Industries. He is a member of the Social Policy Research and Innovation Group and actively contributes to interdisciplinary research and teaching.

His research focuses on human geography, particularly youth citizenship, political participation, and the societal impacts of major events like the 2014 Scottish Independence Referendum and the Glasgow Commonwealth Games. He explores how young people engage as citizens during transformative political and cultural moments. His teaching spans foundational to advanced levels, including modules on urban and rural transformation, participatory geography, and geographies of citizenship.
His recent publications reflect a consistent theme of civic engagement, participatory methodologies, and geography education, often involving community partnerships and student-led research. These works bridge academic inquiry with real-world social impact.

Dr Duckett serves as Director of Studies and PhD Supervisor for Ms Bintou Jobe. He has held key roles such as Professional Practice and Placement Academic Coordinator (2021–present) and Entrepreneurship Champion for the School of Applied Science (2021–22). He has secured institutional recognition for his contributions to teaching and community engagement. His activities include organizing and presenting at conferences such as the RGS-IBG Annual Conference and WISERD, as well as public outreach events like the Digital Urban Geographies exhibition.
He is actively involved in the Participatory Geography initiative, which emphasizes co-production with communities, stakeholders, and students, aiming to create impactful, socially relevant geographical research and education.
