Jonathan David Shaub is the Norman & Carole Harned Associate Professor of Law and Public Policy at the University of Kentucky’s Rosenberg College of Law. His research focuses on constitutional separation of powers, executive privilege, presidential power, and congressional oversight. He teaches constitutional law and federal courts, and advises on executive power through a seminar. Shaub’s scholarship appears in top journals like Duke Law Journal and Harvard Journal on Legislation, and his work has been cited in congressional documents and major media. He received the 2024 Levin Center Excellence in Oversight Research Award for his paper on executive privilege. Previously, he served as Senior Associate Counsel to the President (part-time) and in the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of Legal Counsel, advising on interbranch disputes. He has also litigated in the U.S. Supreme Court and Tennessee Supreme Court as Assistant Solicitor General.

His work is frequently cited in high-profile cases involving executive privilege, such as the January 6 Committee investigations.
Award-winning contributions include testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee and media appearances on NPR, CNN, and Lawfare. His interdisciplinary approach bridges legal scholarship with public commentary, addressing contemporary challenges in governance and constitutional law.
Shaub’s teaching and research are amplified by his practical legal experience in government litigation and constitutional advisory roles. He is affiliated with the Rosenberg College of Law and maintains ties to the University of Kentucky through his grandfather’s alumni status.
