Jonathan Cooper

Dr Jonathan Cooper is a Senior Lecturer in Sustainable Technology and Geography at Harper Adams University's Agriculture and Environment department. He leads undergraduate honours research and masters-level research projects. His expertise spans agricultural and environmental policy, climate change policy, and sustainable development.

Dr Cooper holds a BSc in Sustainable Development from the University of St Andrews and a PhD in Environmental Management from the University of Central Lancashire. His research focuses on the water-energy-food nexus, agrivoltaics, and urban agriculture. Recent projects include enhancing food security through urban farming systems in Jordan (£20k, 2020–21) and growing agricultural engineering in Africa (£159k, 2019–21).

His teaching covers environmental issues, climate change, sustainable energy, and advanced research methods. He supervises postgraduate research on topics like vertical farming, carbon sequestration, and policy impacts on agriculture.

Dr Cooper’s awards include Fellowships from the Royal Geographical Society and the Higher Education Academy. He actively engages with professional bodies like the Institution of Agricultural Engineers and contributes to global development initiatives.
