Jonathan Cohen is an Associate Professor in the Department of Environmental Biology at SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry. His research focuses on wildlife habitat and population management issues, particularly shorebird conservation and nongame/game species ecology. He employs field studies and modeling to address conservation challenges.
Education:
- Ph.D. Fisheries and Wildlife Sciences, VA Tech University (2005)
- M.S. Renewable Natural Resources, University of Connecticut (1998)
- B.S. Natural Resources, Cornell University (1994)
Research explores wildlife responses to anthropogenic disturbances, habitat restoration efficacy, and demographic modeling for threatened species. Current projects include shorebird restoration at Lake Ontario and avian monitoring at Fort Drum. Articles predominantly analyze avian ecology, conservation strategies, and population dynamics using field data and statistical modeling.
Active in professional organizations including The Wildlife Society and Waterbird Society. Advises multiple graduate students on wildlife ecology projects and teaches courses in wildlife habitats, population estimation, and statistical modeling.
