Jonathan Boulter is a Professor in the Department of English and Writing Studies at the University of Western Ontario. He holds a BA (Honours) from McMaster University (1991), an MA from McMaster (1992), and a PhD from the University of Western Ontario (1996). His research focuses on 20th-century and contemporary literature, with a specialization in Samuel Beckett, alongside studies of posthumanism, postmodernism, and digital culture. He has published widely on Beckett, as well as authors like Paul Auster, Haruki Murakami, José Saramago, and Jorge Luis Borges. His work explores themes such as trauma, narrative form, existentialism, and the intersections of literature with digital media and cyberpunk aesthetics.
Boulter’s research also extends to digital gameplay, virtual realities, and the philosophical implications of posthumanism. His publications analyze topics ranging from Beckett’s short prose and Endgame to the cultural significance of gaming and cyberpunk narratives. He is affiliated with University College, where he teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in modern and contemporary literature.
His scholarly contributions span literary theory, ecocriticism, and interdisciplinary studies, reflecting a commitment to examining how literature engages with technological, ethical, and existential questions in the modern era.
