Jonathan Blundy is a Research Professor conducting groundbreaking work on magmatic processes, with a focus on subduction-related volcanoes across the globe. His research integrates igneous petrology, high-temperature experimental geochemistry, thermodynamic modeling, and field geology to unravel volcanic mechanisms and their connection to ore deposits.
Current projects span volcanic arcs in the Lesser Antilles, Kamchatka, Cascades, Bolivia, Chile, Mexico, Turkey, and Vanuatu, funded through his Royal Society Research Professorship titled 'From Volcanoes to Green Mining.' This initiative aims to develop sustainable mineral exploration techniques for critical resources like copper, lithium, and rare earth elements needed for the low-carbon transition.
