Jonathan Acosta Smith

Dr Jonathan Acosta Smith is a Senior Fellow at the Centre for Sustainable Finance within the Department of Economics at SOAS, University of London, and concurrently serves as an economist at the OECD. He leads academic initiatives for the University Network for Strengthening Macro-financial Resilience to Climate and Environmental Change, supporting its Secretariat. His expertise spans financial system stability, macroeconomic policy, and sustainable finance, with a focus on credit markets, bank regulation, and climate-related financial risks.

Jonathan holds a BSc (Hons) from King’s College London, and both an MPhil and PhD from the University of Cambridge. His career includes roles at the Bank of England and European Central Bank, emphasizing policymaking in financial stability and macroeconomic frameworks. He contributes to global policy dialogues through research presentations at leading institutions and publications in high-impact journals.

His work integrates interdisciplinary approaches to address systemic financial risks, particularly at the intersection of climate change and economic policy. He advises on regulatory frameworks and sustainable finance strategies, leveraging his academic and central banking experience.
