Jonathan Abrahams is an Associate Professor at Monash University Accident Research Centre (MUARC), leading the Monash University Disaster Resilience Initiative. His work focuses on disaster risk reduction, health emergency preparedness, and climate change adaptation, with global collaborations in transdisciplinary research and policy. He previously contributed to the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030 negotiations and holds roles in the WHO Health EDRM Research Network and World Meteorological Organization Joint Study Group.
Research interests include community resilience, resilient healthcare systems, fire risk management, and emerging technologies in disaster response. He leads major projects such as the Asia-Pacific Resilient Hospitals Initiative and the Multi-Hazard Public Information Platforms for the Future. His expertise aligns with UN SDGs related to climate action, health equity, and sustainable development.
Abrahams has extensive experience with organizations like the Asian Disaster Preparedness Center, AusAID, and Emergency Management Australia. He actively engages in policy development and capacity-building programs for health systems globally.
