Jonas Thiel

Dr Jonas Thiel is a Senior Lecturer in Primary Education at Manchester Metropolitan University. After completing his undergraduate degree at the University of Giessen and a PGCE in Manchester, he taught in primary schools before earning his PhD at Manchester Metropolitan University in 2014. His research critically examines the UK National Student Survey as a neoliberal apparatus, ratings/rankings in academia, and democratic education principles.

His expertise spans arts education, neoliberalism, Foucauldian theory, New Materialism, bilingualism, and democratic education. He co-led a Council of Europe/European Union project to integrate democratic principles into teacher education and authored a book with Routledge. He has taught and led undergraduate and doctoral units at Manchester Met.
