Jonas Sjölander is an Associate Professor in History at Linnaeus University, affiliated with the Department of Cultural Sciences and the Faculty of Arts and Humanities. He teaches in the Program for Integration and Diversity Studies, teacher education, and serves on the Program Council for the Master's program in Cultural Sciences. His research focuses on global political economy, transnational labor solidarity, postcolonial power relations, and education systems' role in social justice.
Dr. Sjölander holds a PhD from Växjö University (2005) and was a Marie Curie Postdoc Fellow studying South African labor movements. His work critically examines Eurocentric narratives, racialization, and class/gender dynamics in global labor contexts. Notable contributions include analyzing Swedish trade unions' engagement in Colombia and South Africa, and oral history methodologies.
He has co-edited collections on childhood conditions in Malmö and contributed to interdisciplinary projects at the Centre for Subject Didactic Research in Arts and Humanities (Cähls). Recent work bridges labor history with contemporary pedagogical challenges, emphasizing education's role in fostering sustainable social equity.
Publications span labor movements' transnational strategies, corporate social responsibility critiques, and historiographical debates over apartheid narratives. His research highlights marginalized perspectives in global solidarity movements and educational policy impacts on youth development.
