Jonas Lührmann is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mathematics at Texas A&M University. Previously, he held a position as a J.J. Sylvester Assistant Professor at Johns Hopkins University. He earned his Ph.D. in Mathematics from ETH Zurich under Prof. Michael Struwe and Prof. Joachim Krieger. His research focuses on the long-time dynamics of nonlinear dispersive and hyperbolic partial differential equations (PDEs), with particular emphasis on soliton stability, asymptotic behavior, and geometric aspects of PDEs.
His work spans equations like the Klein-Gordon equation, sine-Gordon equation, Schrödinger maps, and wave maps. He has contributed to understanding stability properties of solitons and kinks, scattering behavior in dispersive systems, and the interplay between geometric structures and PDE dynamics. His research often combines probabilistic methods with classical PDE techniques to address questions of well-posedness and asymptotic stability.
Lührmann has been funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) to support his research. He has organized workshops such as the Spring School on Soliton Dynamics (2024) and TexAMP 2024. He has taught advanced courses on partial differential equations, differential equations, and mathematical analysis at both Texas A&M and Johns Hopkins.
