Jonas Berghel is a Professor of Environmental and Energy Systems at Karlstad University's Department of Chemical and Engineering Sciences. He leads the NewDeP research initiative and serves as Programme Director of the master's programme in Energy and Environmental Technology. His research focuses on energy-efficient drying techniques, pelleting of biomaterials, and biomass utilization, with an emphasis on improving pellet durability and reducing emissions.
Education: PhD in Environmental and Energy Systems (Karlstad University, 2004), Licenciat in SIMS (Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, 2000). His work spans academic roles including teaching in fluid mechanics, heat transfer, and thesis supervision since 2004.
Research interests include optimizing biomass processing, additive effects on pellet quality, and reducing environmental impacts of pellet storage. Notable contributions include studies on off-gassing mechanisms, starch-based additives, and two-step drying techniques.
Recent publications highlight advancements in pellet durability, drying efficiency, and material science applications. Collaborations with industry partners like ASKO Applications AB have driven practical innovations in energy-efficient pellet production.
