Jonah Radding is an Assistant Instructional Professor and Assistant to the Director of Undergraduate Studies in the Department of Classics at the Division of the Arts & Humanities, University of Chicago. He specializes in ancient Greek literature and its socio-political contexts.
Education: Ph.D. in Classics (University of Chicago, 2016).
Research Interests: Athenian tragedy, ancient Greek lyric/epinician poetry, Athenian democracy, and Greek athletic cultures. Current projects include discourses of defeat in ancient/modern athletics and skepticism toward seers/divination in antiquity. He has also taught at Northwestern University and in Chicago’s Latinx community through the Stateville Correctional Center Prison Education Program.
Publications: Focus on Euripides, Pindar, and Bacchylides. Recent works explore Athenian political ideology, tragic poetry’s communal roles, and cross-cultural translation (e.g., Plato’s Seventh Letter).
Teaching & Outreach: Engages diverse educational settings, including correctional facilities and community high schools, emphasizing classical texts’ relevance to contemporary issues.
