Jon Willis is a Professor at the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Victoria. His research focuses on astrophysics and cosmology, with particular interest in galaxy clusters, galaxy evolution, and dark matter. He leads multiple research projects including the XXL Survey studying galaxy clusters and the ZEN project searching for high-redshift galaxies.
His research investigates fundamental questions about the universe's structure and evolution, including: the formation timeline of galaxy clusters, environmental effects on galaxy evolution, properties of dark matter, and the appearance of the first galaxies. This involves multi-wavelength surveys, gravitational lensing studies, and narrow-band imaging techniques.
Recent publications focus on spectroscopic confirmation of distant galaxy clusters, X-ray surveys of large-scale structures, and searches for primordial galaxies. His work consistently contributes to understanding dark matter distribution and high-redshift galaxy formation.
Dr. Willis mentors graduate students working on cluster galaxy evolution, star formation histories, and gravitational lensing applications.
