معرفی
Jon Mosar is a Professor of Geosciences at the University of Fribourg's Faculty of Science and Medicine since 2011, holding a Habilitation (venia legendi) since 2003. He leads research in structural geology and tectonics, focusing on deformation processes in fold-and-thrust belts, mountain-building dynamics, and the interplay between inherited structures and modern tectonics. His work integrates field observations, 3D seismic interpretation, numerical modeling, and analogue experiments.
Research interests include the Jura Fold-and-Thrust Belt (Switzerland/France), the Greater Caucasus (Georgia/Russia), and the Alps. Notable studies address fault mechanics in the Geneva Basin, stress distribution in foreland basins, and the evolution of doubly verging fold belts. He has authored numerous high-impact articles on tectonic deformation, seismic analysis, and paleostress reconstruction.
As a senior researcher, Mosar collaborates internationally on projects like the TOPO-EUROPE initiative, exploring coupled deep-Earth and surface processes. His contributions span geodynamic modeling, seismic hazard assessments, and the structural evolution of collisional orogens.
Teaching includes advanced seminars on tectonic analysis and structural geology. He advises graduate students and mentors researchers in the Department of Geosciences' laboratory facilities.
