Jon Humphries is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Life Sciences / Centre for Bioscience at Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU). His research focuses on integrin adhesion receptors, their signaling pathways, and interactions with the extracellular matrix. He employs proteomics, mass spectrometry, and biochemical approaches to study cell migration, mechanotransduction, and cancer biology. His work explores how ECM components like perlecan regulate radioresistance in cancers, and how KANK2-Talin interactions influence microtubule dynamics and drug sensitivity in melanoma.
Key research areas include: (1) Integrin-mediated signaling in cancer progression, (2) Mechanisms of radiotherapy resistance, (3) Extracellular matrix remodeling in hypoxic environments, and (4) Cell adhesion dynamics in metastasis. He has published extensively on topics including adhesion complex composition, ECM-protein interactions, and drug response pathways.
Recent studies reveal his focus on translational applications of ECM research for improving cancer therapies, with particular attention to melanoma and pancreatic cancers. His lab integrates advanced proteomic techniques with cell biology models to uncover novel therapeutic targets.
