Jon Hill

Jon Hill is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Environment and Geography at the University of York. An environmental computational scientist, he develops numerical models to study tsunamis, tides, and coastal hazards across geological and contemporary timescales. His group focuses on Arctic landslide tsunamis and marine renewable energy impacts.

Research integrates field sedimentology with high-resolution simulations to reconstruct past events like the Storegga tsunami and assess future risks. Hill also investigates paleo-tides to understand human migration routes.

Recent publications advance methodologies in tsunami sedimentology and examine how sea-level changes influenced hominin dispersals from Africa. His work bridges geophysics, archaeology, and climate science.
