Jon Cox is an Associate Professor in the Department of Art and Design at the University of Delaware, serving as Director of Arts and Culture/Vice President of the Amazon Center for Environmental Education and Research (ACEER Foundation). He holds an M.F.A. (2004) and B.S. in Entomology (1998) from UD.
His research focuses on community-engaged art addressing social/environmental issues through photography and film. Notable collaborations include culturally mapped books with Indigenous communities in Tanzania and Peru, and global projects with displaced populations supported by NSF, NIH, and National Geographic. Cox is a Fulbright Specialist and National Geographic Explorer.
Recent work includes the 'Arrivals' project using PhotoVoice methodology with Ukrainian refugees in Slovakia and climate migration studies in Kenya. Exhibitions span institutions like The Field Museum and Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian. Awards include DENIN Faculty Fellow and recognition for cross-cultural storytelling.
Grants include NSF-funded environmental projects and NIH health equity studies. Advising focuses on MFA students while leading international collaborative initiatives. Cox’s lab/teams involve ACEER and partnerships with institutions like Dickinson College and Emory University.
