Jon Chandler is an Associate Professor (Teaching) in History at University College London (UCL), specializing in 18th-century Atlantic World history with a focus on war's impact on politics and society. He holds a PhD from UCL (2014) and is a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society and the Higher Education Academy.
His research explores the American Revolution's socio-political dimensions, including military strategies, identity formation, and desertion patterns. He also advocates for technology-driven history education, emphasizing accessible pedagogy and digital tools.
Publications include The Schlager Anthology of the American Revolution (2021) and War, Patriotism and Identity in Revolutionary North America (2020). Awards include the HEA Fellowship (2019) for educational innovation.
He supervises PhD students on topics like Anglo-Prussian relations during the Revolutionary War and Irish recruitment in the British Army. Current advisees include Marvin Münsch, Becca Palmer, and Sadie Sunderland-Rhoads.
