Johnathan Hewis is a Senior Lecturer in Medical Imaging at Charles Sturt University, Australia, within the School of Dentistry and Medical Sciences. Originally from the UK, he brings extensive clinical expertise in major trauma imaging, neuro-interventional radiology, MRI, gastrointestinal studies, and planar image interpretation. Since entering academia in 2005, he has been deeply involved in both teaching and research.

Research Interests: Johnathan’s research is centred on lived experience in medical radiation sciences, particularly focusing on patient distress during MRI procedures. He explores image interpretation, advanced practice, and the innovative use of social media in healthcare research. His methodological expertise includes phenomenology, hermeneutics, grounded theory, and content analysis.

Teaching Focus: Johnathan teaches across the diagnostic radiography curriculum, specialising in planar chest, abdomen, and musculoskeletal image interpretation at both undergraduate and master’s levels. His teaching spans anatomy, patient care, MRI instrumentation, interventional radiology, and qualitative research methods.
Professional Roles: He serves as an Associate Editor for the Journal of Medical Imaging & Radiation Science and chairs the Advanced Practice Reference Group for the Australian Society of Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy (ASMIRT).
