John de Bahl serves as a Lecturer and Postdoctoral Research Associate within the Reimagining World Order Research Community, focusing on the agency of marginalized actors in reshaping international systemic structures. His work critically examines how less powerful states and non-state entities transform foundational frameworks of global governance.
He holds a D.Phil. from the University of Oxford, where his doctoral research established expertise in theoretical international relations and institutional evolution within multipolar systems.
Dr. de Bahl's scholarship centers on constitutive power dynamics in international orders, analyzing how weaker actors subvert, modify, and reconstruct normative categories that define global hierarchies. His research intersects critical theory, historical institutionalism, and post-Westphalian governance models, with particular emphasis on decolonial approaches to world order transformation. This work directly challenges conventional realist paradigms by foregrounding the transformative capacity of structurally disadvantaged actors in reconfiguring international society.
