John Works is an Adjunct Professor at the Sturm College of Law, University of Denver, where he teaches the Expert Witness Practicum. With over 40 years of global experience in the energy sector, he specializes in translating complex financial and legal concepts into actionable insights for legal professionals. Currently, he serves as an expert witness in a $20 million lawsuit concerning a 100 MW solar project in a developing country, evaluating project maturity to determine eligibility for lost profits.

John’s career spans project and structured finance, oil & gas, renewable energy development (solar, wind, hydro, biomass), and design of competitive energy auctions and regulatory frameworks. He has originated, financed, and managed large-scale energy projects and focuses on empowering stakeholders to foster competitive energy markets and attract private sector investment.
Licensure: Admitted to practice law in New York (Southern and Eastern Districts since 1982) and Washington, DC (since 2013).
