John Williams serves as Visiting Professor of Guitar at the Royal College of Music in London. Born in Melbourne, Australia, he is regarded as a foremost ambassador of the guitar, having studied with his father and later with Segovia at the Academia Musicale Chigiana in Siena, Italy.
Williams has maintained an extensive international career since the early 1960s, performing in major venues across London, Paris, Madrid, Japan, Russia and the US. His musical journey includes notable collaborations with Julian Bream, Itzhak Perlman, Andre Previn, Cleo Laine, John Dankworth and Daniel Barenboim.
His artistic interests span diverse musical traditions including contemporary compositions, African music from Senegal, Cameroon, Zaire, South Africa, Madagascar and Cape Verde, Venezuelan works by composers Figueredo, Sojo, Lauro, Fernandez and Gutierrez, and traditional Irish tunes. Williams has demonstrated particular commitment to contemporary repertoire through recordings of works by Toru Takemitsu, Peter Sculthorpe, Nigel Westlake and Leo Brouwer.

Williams has maintained an active performance schedule, touring with various ensembles including John Williams and Friends, SKY, and collaborations with Richard Harvey and John Etheridge. His recent activities included the Together & Solo programme with John Etheridge featuring original compositions, music from Africa and the US, and a new commission by Paul Hart. During the 2009/10 season, Williams toured the UK and Europe with Etheridge while also giving solo recitals in the UK and Japan and touring with the English Chamber Orchestra.
His television work includes the highly successful Profile and The Seville Concert, both directed by David Thomas for London Weekend Television's South Bank Show, reflecting his commitment to communicating music through visual media.
