John Weishampel serves as Interim Dean of the College of Graduate Studies and Professor in the Department of Biology at the University of Central Florida. His landscape ecology research investigates how spatial patterns influence ecological processes and biodiversity using remote sensing (LiDAR, satellite), GIS, and simulation modeling.
Key research areas include coastal wetland responses to sea-level rise, sea turtle nesting ecology under climate change, tropical rainforest canopy structure, and ancient Maya land-use legacies. His work integrates field observations with geospatial technologies to address conservation challenges.
Current projects focus on quantifying climate change impacts on coastal species and developing predictive models for ecological management.
