John W. Tillotson is an Associate Professor of STEM Education at Syracuse University's College of Arts & Sciences, where he also serves as Director of the SUSTAIN Program. His work focuses on broadening access for underrepresented students in STEM, improving pedagogical practices through evidence-based teaching, and fostering science identity. He has secured over $5 million in grants from the National Science Foundation and New York State Education Department.
- Education: Ph.D. in Science Education (University of Iowa, 1996), M.S. in Chemistry (University of Iowa, 1995), B.S. in Secondary Chemistry Education (SUNY Cortland, 1991)
His research explores undergraduate STEM education, active learning strategies, and mentoring frameworks, with recent studies on peer coaching, longitudinal support programs, and classroom collaboration. Articles span topics like student resistance to active learning, mentoring structures, and STEM intervention outcomes.
