John Varineau is a Lecturer and conductor at Calvin University's Music Department since 2013. He serves as conductor of the Calvin Orchestra, Calvin Community Symphony, and previously held roles as associate conductor of the Grand Rapids Symphony and conductor of the Grand Rapids Youth Symphony and Classical Orchestra. He retired in 2021 after 36 years in orchestral leadership. Varineau teaches clarinet, music theory, and has instructed at multiple institutions including Grand Valley State University and Grand Rapids Community College.

Outreach & Leadership: Over 36 years, he conducted classical, pops, and family series with the Grand Rapids Symphony, including the DeVos Classical Series and Lollipop Series. His career includes guest conducting roles across Michigan and beyond, blending performance with educational commitment.
