John T. Jost is a Professor of Psychology and Politics at New York University, affiliated with Sociology and the Center for Data Science. He co-directs the Center for Social and Political Behavior. His research focuses on system justification theory, political ideology, social justice, stereotyping, and climate psychology, supported by NSF grants. With over 250 publications and 6 books, his work has earned awards such as the Gordon Allport Prize and PROSE Award. He edits Oxford's Political Psychology series and Frontiers in Social Psychology.
Education: Ph.D. Yale University (1995), M.A. University of Cincinnati (1993), A.B. Duke University (1989).
Research emphasizes understanding how systemic structures influence attitudes and behavior, particularly regarding inequality and political polarization. Recent work includes global climate interventions and ideological asymmetries in democracy threats. His articles analyze system justification mechanisms in law, health, and environmental contexts.
Honors include honorary doctorates from Buenos Aires and Eötvös Loránd Universities, and leadership roles in APS and ISPP. The Social Justice Lab he directs explores utopian thinking and collective action for social change.
