Associate Professor John Stride is a faculty member at the University of New South Wales (UNSW), specifically in the School of Chemistry within the Faculty of Science. His research primarily focuses on the application of neutron techniques to investigate molecular and molecule-based materials, with particular emphasis on magnetic interactions and molecular arrangements in solid-state systems.
Dr. Stride's research interests span three main areas:
- Investigation of new molecular materials incorporating magnetic moments, including transition metal ions in organic frameworks that exhibit novel magnetic behaviors ranging from low-dimensional systems to spin liquids
- Study of molecular alignment and crystallization processes, examining how intermolecular forces influence crystalline structure formation
- Development of new neutron instrumentation and methods, contributing to Australia's neutron scattering capabilities through the Bragg Institute
His recent publications (2020-2024) demonstrate a strong focus on materials for solar energy applications, particularly in the development of perovskite and kesterite (Cu2ZnSnS4) solar cells. There's also significant work on graphene and other 2D materials, quantum dots, and nanostructured materials. His research combines fundamental materials science with practical applications in energy conversion technologies.
Dr. Stride has numerous collaborations across various institutions and has published extensively in high-impact journals including Nature Energy, Advanced Energy Materials, and ACS Applied Energy Materials. His work often involves interdisciplinary teams focusing on materials characterization, synthesis, and device fabrication.
