John Standish Adams

John Standish Adams, M.D., M.P.H. is an Associate Clinical Professor at UC Davis School of Medicine, specializing in Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine. He is affiliated with UC Davis Children's Hospital and UC Davis Medical Group.

Dr. Adams holds board certifications in Pediatrics, Internal Medicine, and Adolescent Medicine. His educational background includes a B.Sc. in Cognitive Science from UC Berkeley, an M.D. from UCSD, and an M.P.H. in Quantitative Methods from Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at UCSD Medical Center and fellowships in Underserved Health Care at UCSD Medical Center and Adolescent Medicine at Boston Children's Hospital.

Dr. Adams specializes in the treatment of youth from ages 10-26 years, with clinical interests spanning mental health (including depression, anxiety, OCD, eating disorders, and substance use disorders), reproductive/sexual health, male health, care of youth with chronic illness, and care of LGBTQ+ youth. He is particularly interested in exploring how mindfulness and self-compassion tools can support youth development and resilience.

His academic work focuses on improving systems of care to more effectively and equitably support youth well-being. He leads a project aimed at streamlining access to mental health treatment for youth with chronic medical problems and is a certified mindfulness instructor exploring how mindfulness-based groups might support long-term well-being in youth.
