Randi Jenssen Hagerman

Randi Jenssen Hagerman, M.D., is a Distinguished Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of California, Davis. She holds the Endowed Chair in Fragile X Research and serves as the Medical Director of the MIND Institute. Her affiliations include UC Davis Health, the MIND Institute, and UC Davis Children's Hospital. Dr. Hagerman is a leading expert in neurogenetic disorders, specializing in Fragile X syndrome, premutation disorders, autism, FXTAS, FXPOI, and FXAND. She actively involves patients in research on new treatments and advocates for a multimodal approach combining behavioral, educational, and psychopharmacological interventions.

Dr. Hagerman earned her B.S. in Zoology from UC Davis (1971) and her M.D. from Stanford University School of Medicine (1975). She completed residencies at Stanford Hospital and UC San Diego, followed by a fellowship in Neurodevelopmental Disorders (1979–1980).

Her research interests focus on targeted treatments for fragile X syndrome and associated disorders, including metformin, CBD, BPN14770, and trofinetide. In FXTAS, she studies memantine, allopregnanolone, and Anavex 2-73. Collaborating with Dr. Paul Hagerman and Dr. Flora Tassone, she explores molecular biomarkers to advance diagnosis and therapy. Her work bridges clinical care and translational research, emphasizing personalized medicine and neurobiological insights.

Dr. Hagerman has received numerous awards, including the Hibbard Williams M.D. Lifetime Achievement Award (2022) and the International Sisley-Jerome Lejeune Award (2014). Her contributions span understanding disease mechanisms and developing treatments, reflecting her commitment to improving patient outcomes through innovation.
