John Silver

John Silver is a Senior Lecturer in the Discipline of Counselling at James Cook University, affiliated with the College of Arts, Society and Education. He holds a Master in Counselling from Queensland University of Technology, alongside qualifications in Ministry, Community Services, and Professional Supervision. John has extensive experience in tertiary education since 2015, progressing from a Sessional Lecturer to his current role, where he oversees student development in ACAP's placement program and serves as First Year Level Co-ordinator.

His research focuses on anger management, spirituality and faith in therapeutic contexts, and therapeutic change processes. Notable work includes a 2008 book chapter exploring intersections between narrative therapy and Christian faith. John maintains a private counseling practice and has provided clinical supervision for Christian ministry workers, alongside community counseling experience.

Professional accreditations include Commissioner for Declarations (QLD) and membership in the Australian Counselling Association (Level 4). His teaching emphasizes inclusive, strengths-based approaches and effective teamwork.
