John Schaibley is an Associate Professor of Physics at the University of Arizona, affiliated with the PAS laboratory and Google Scholar. His research focuses on optoelectronic and spin physics in low-dimensional systems, particularly 2D materials such as transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs) and heterostructures. He explores phenomena like interlayer excitons, valleytronics, and quantum dots in layered systems.
Education: Ph.D. Physics (2013, University of Michigan). Research interests include atomic/molecular/optical physics and condensed matter physics, with emphasis on device applications and correlated quantum systems. He has pioneered studies on excitonic dynamics in 2D materials and developed novel plasmonic and optoelectronic devices.
Notable awards include the Bisgrove Scholar (2017) and AFOSR-YIP Award (2017). His work spans experimental and theoretical approaches, leveraging cryogenic imaging and nanoscale patterning techniques. Ongoing projects involve engineering correlated states in MoSe₂ and manipulating excitons in hybrid organic/2D systems.
Recent publications highlight advancements in interlayer exciton superfluidity, plasmonic modulation, and valleytronics in monolayer semiconductors. His lab develops cutting-edge tools for studying quantum phenomena at the nanoscale, with applications in optoelectronics and quantum computing.
