Professor John S Riddell is a faculty member at the University of Glasgow's School of Psychology & Neuroscience, serving as Director of Research. His work focuses on spinal cord mechanisms, including sensory/motor processing, neuropathic pain, and regeneration post-injury. Key research areas include spinal interneuronal circuits and pain modulation pathways.
Publications highlight studies on spinal cord injury recovery, bone regeneration interventions, and chemogenetic analysis of gut-brain axis interactions. Recent work emphasizes nanovibration therapy for osteoporosis prevention and international guidelines for intracranial pressure monitoring.
Prof Riddell holds grants from the Medical Research Council (MRC), Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC), and others. His team investigates neural circuits using advanced imaging techniques like VASO-fMRI. Supervised students include Kayleigh Kanakis and Maya Kommer.
Professional contributions include roles on grant advisory boards and international presentations. Awards include the McNaught Bequest Fellowship (1995-1998) and Wellcome Trust Research Fellowship (1990-1995). Collaborators include Andrew Bell, Nils Nothnagel, and Jane Brandon.
