John Ramster is the Associate Head of Vocal Studies (Drama) and Drama & Stage Director at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. He holds a history degree from Cambridge University and has extensive experience in opera direction, teaching, and production across Europe and the UK. His roles include lecturer in drama and Resident Producer at the Royal Academy of Music (15 years), and collaborations with institutions like Covent Garden, National Opera Studio, and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.
Education: B.A. History, Cambridge University.
Research Interests: Specializing in drama techniques for opera singers, baroque gesture methodologies, and interdisciplinary theatre production. He has directed over 20 operas, including Radamisto, Der fliegende Holländer, and Lucia di Lammermoor, blending historical performance practices with contemporary staging.
Awards:
- Belgrade National Theatre Award for Outstanding Artistic Achievement (201X) for Lucia di Lammermoor.
Advising & Collaborations: Taught at major London colleges, including the Guildhall Opera course, and mentored artists via the Jette Parker Young Artists Programme. His work spans academic and professional opera training.
