John Perry is an Assistant Professor of Instruction in the Department of History at the University of South Florida (USF), part of the College of Arts and Sciences. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Kentucky (2021). His research focuses on U.S. government interactions with non-state actors in the Middle East during the early Cold War, particularly examining how groups like Palestinian refugees and Syrian ethnic minorities influenced regional and global dynamics.
Teaching emphasizes interdisciplinary approaches to U.S. history, Cold War studies, and Middle Eastern relations. Courses include 'U.S. Foreign Relations,' 'War and Society: Cold War in the Third World,' and cross-disciplinary offerings in political science and sociology. Perry prioritizes critical historical analysis and student argumentation skills.
His research methodology involves archival work in Lebanon, Israel, and U.S. repositories like the Truman Library and CIA Records. He is currently revising his doctoral dissertation into a monograph exploring minority nationalism’s impact on Cold War politics.
