John P. Vincent

John P. Vincent, Ph.D., is a Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Houston, within the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences. He is the Director of the Center for Forensic Psychology and Co-Director of the Center for Couples Therapy, highlighting his leadership in applied clinical and forensic domains.

Dr. Vincent's research centers on forensic psychology, particularly the assessment of psychological functioning in civil litigation, methodological issues in forensic evaluations, and the psychological impact of trauma. He also investigates posttraumatic and acute stress disorders, family dynamics in divorce, and marital and family therapy. His work bridges clinical science with legal applications, emphasizing ethical and empirical rigor.

His recent publications (spanning 1980–2008) reflect a sustained focus on family systems, domestic violence, child victimization, and clinical-legal intersections. Themes include interparental conflict, treatment dropout prediction, psychological autopsies, and cultural factors in symptom presentation. These works demonstrate a commitment to evidence-based practice and translational research.

Notable recognition includes the Houston Bar Foundation award (2008) for an outstanding legal article on emotional injury evaluation in civil litigation.
