John O'Regan is a Professor of Critical Applied Linguistics at University College London (UCL) within the Institute of Education (IOE), specifically in the Culture, Communication & Media department. He also serves as Vice-Dean (International) at the IOE. His academic journey includes a PhD in Critical Linguistics from the IOE, along with MAs in International Political Economy (University of Warwick) and Applied Linguistics (Birkbeck College), and a BA from Leicester Polytechnic.
His research focuses on global English, political economy, critical discourse analysis, and intercultural communication. Key themes include the sociopolitical dimensions of language, the role of capitalism in linguistic dynamics, and historical imperialism's impact on contemporary education and communication. Prof. O'Regan is fluent in Spanish and contributes to UCL’s international strategy as Vice-Dean. His interdisciplinary approach bridges critical theory, political economy, and applied linguistics, addressing global societal transformations.
