Dr. John Morrissey is an Associate Professor at Mary Immaculate College (MIC), Limerick, Ireland, affiliated with the Department of Geography within the Faculty of Arts. He holds a BSc and PhD from the University of Limerick (UL). His research focuses on sustainability transitions, climate change education, energy justice, and coastal resilience. Morrissey leads projects exploring household energy decisions in Ghana, just energy transitions, and the blue economy's socio-environmental implications.
His work integrates political ecology and human security frameworks to address global challenges like energy access, marine resource management, and climate adaptation. He supervises postgraduate research scholarships, including the AQUABALANCE PhD scholarship on sustainable aquaculture. Morrissey advocates for transformative education policies and equitable development frameworks to achieve UN Sustainable Development Goals. He contributes to interdisciplinary research on climate justice, urban transitions, and community-based sustainability initiatives.
