John Morgenstern was a Professor of English at Mount Saint Vincent University, serving for 39 years until his retirement in 2017. His academic focus included eighteenth-century literature, children’s literature, and detective fiction. Morgenstern earned his PhD from the University of Toronto, with early research on landscape imagery in eighteenth-century poetry. He transitioned to children’s literature, publishing *Playing with Books: A Study of the Reader as Child* (2009). Known for organizing the Atlantic Undergraduate English Conference (1981) and performing humorous poetry readings, he actively participated in university governance, including roles in the MSVUFA union.
