Associate Professor John Mikler is affiliated with the University of Sydney's Department of Government and International Relations within the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. He holds a BCom (Hons) from UNSW, an MIntS (Merit) from Sydney, and a PhD from Sydney. His research focuses on transnational corporations, global political economy, climate change, and business-government relations.
His work examines how multinational corporations interact with states, international organizations, and civil society, with a comparative institutionalist lens. Notable publications include The Political Power of Global Corporations (2018) and Capitalism for All (2022). He has received prestigious awards such as the 2023 Richard Higgott Prize and the 2008 Giandomenico Majone Prize.
Teaching includes courses like Globalisation, Governance and the State (GOVT3988) and Politics of International Economic Relations (GOVT3622). Current research students include Shyam Singh, exploring fossil fuel lobby networks. His articles address corporate tax governance, climate innovation, and regulatory dynamics across multiple countries.
Grants include the 2018 Catching Capital project on corporate tax strategy and the 2015 Political Power of Global Corporations grant. He frequently presents at international conferences, including the International Studies Association and European Consortium for Political Research.
