Dr. John Meyer serves as Director of Graduate Studies at Martin Luther College (MLC), overseeing the Master of Science in Education (M.S. Ed.) program. His focus is enhancing communication and collaboration within the online educational community, particularly supporting WELS (Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod) teachers. He emphasizes the program’s alignment with the needs of diverse ministry contexts, from preschool through high school.
Education: John holds an M.S. in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Wisconsin-Madison (2002) and is completing a Ph.D. in Educational Administration at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities (dissertation phase). He previously earned DMLC certification through a principal licensure program.
Research Interests: Meyer’s work centers on empowering educators in Lutheran schools through continuing education, fostering leadership in ministry contexts, and addressing challenges faced by educators across rural, urban, and suburban settings. He advocates for programs that bridge theological training with practical educational strategies.
Advising & Leadership: As a former teacher and principal in four Lutheran schools (St. John-Wood Lake MN, Zion-Hartland WI, Pilgrim-Minneapolis MN, Salem-Stillwater MN), his experiences inform his commitment to the M.S. Ed. program’s design. He collaborates with seven MLC graduate faculty members and 12 adjunct professors to ensure the program’s relevance to WELS educators.
Personal Life: John and his wife Heidi have five children. His dedication to ministry education stems from a career deeply rooted in Lutheran school leadership and a desire to strengthen the future of church-related education.
