John Meiser is an Associate Clinical Professor and Director of the Lindsay and Matt Moroun Religious Liberty Clinic at the University of Notre Dame Law School. He teaches courses on religious liberty, litigation practice, and federal courts. He holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Notre Dame and a JD summa cum laude from Notre Dame Law School, where he served as editor-in-chief of the Notre Dame Law Review and won the prestigious Col. William J. Hoynes Award.

His research focuses on religious liberty, federal court dynamics, and litigation strategies. Prior to joining Notre Dame, he served as a career law clerk for Judge Diarmuid F. O’Scannlain on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. He also practiced law at Sidley Austin LLP in Washington, D.C., taught as an adjunct professor at Lewis & Clark Law School, and worked in the U.S. Department of Commerce as assistant counsel to the Inspector General.

Advising & Teaching: Meiser leads the Religious Liberty Clinic, which provides legal services while training students. He teaches LAW 73312 (Advanced Topics in Federal Courts), LAW 75610 (Religious Liberty Clinic I), and LAW 75611 (Religious Liberty Clinic II). His work bridges academic scholarship with practical legal advocacy.
Labs/Teams: Directs the Religious Liberty Clinic, a cornerstone of Notre Dame Law School’s clinical program.
