John McGeehan, MD is a Professor of Clinical Medicine and Core Faculty at the Edward D. Viner Center for Humanism Education and Training at Cooper Medical School of Rowan University (CMSRU). He holds academic affiliations with Rowan University, CMSRU, and has served in leadership roles on ethics committees at Cooper University Hospital, Mercy Hospital in Scranton, PA, and the Medical Society of New Jersey.
Dr. McGeehan’s education includes:
- MD from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, Philadelphia, PA
- Residency in Internal Medicine at Pennsylvania Hospital, Philadelphia, PA
- Undergraduate degree from King’s College, Wilkes-Barre, PA
His research and professional interests center on Medical Ethics and Bioethics, Medical Education, and Holistic Review processes. He has developed and directed courses in Applied Medical Ethics and Medical Ethics and Medically Related Law at CMSRU, while overseeing bioethics curricula and professionalism elements in clinical training. His work extends to advancing ethical standards in medical practice and education through committee leadership and publications.
Dr. McGeehan has delivered over 200 Category I CME presentations and contributed to publications such as the textbook Health Care Ethics: Principles and Problems and his recent book A Doctor’s Stories. He has also engaged in podcast discussions on medical ethics topics.
In admissions and student affairs, he served as the inaugural Associate Dean for Student Affairs and Admissions at CMSRU, playing a national role in advancing Holistic Review initiatives. He has advised on medical student pathways in ethics and oversees elective courses and research projects in medical ethics.
He is actively involved in the development and growth of the Center for Humanism at CMSRU, fostering a culture of humanistic care and ethical practice among medical trainees.
